This is the trip for someone who has 4 days off, not 8, and still wants to leave with the two things everyone pictures when they think "Kashmir" — a Shikara ride on Dal Lake and the Gulmarg gondola over snow-capped peaks. We don't pad it with a rushed Pahalgam add-on that turns into 6 hours of driving for 40 minutes of sightseeing. One base, two solid days, done properly.
Typical shape: Day 1 arrival + houseboat, Day 2 full Gulmarg (gondola stage 1, optionally stage 2), Day 3 Srinagar city — Mughal gardens, Shankaracharya Temple, local market — Day 4 departure.
Skip this length if: you're set on seeing Pahalgam's Betaab Valley or Sonamarg's glacier — you'll need at least 4N/5D.
Our most-booked length — the one we'd suggest if you only asked once
This is the trip that answers "just tell me the standard Kashmir package." It adds Pahalgam to the 3N/4D route — Betaab Valley, the Lidder River, and (if you want it) a pony ride up to Aru Valley. It's the length where the driving-to-sightseeing ratio stops feeling tight, which is why most of our honeymoon and family bookings land here. The first length where you're not choosing what to leave out
Five nights is where Sonamarg — and its Thajiwas Glacier views — stops being "if we have time" and becomes a scheduled day with its own hotel night, so you're not doing it as an exhausting same-day round trip from Srinagar. This is the length we point most first-time visitors toward if their leave allows it, because it's genuinely full valley coverage rather than a highlight reel. For travellers who've either been before, or refuse to be rushed
Once Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are all covered without compression, the extra night goes to Doodhpathri — a meadow most single-week tourists never reach because it's not on the standard loop, and local union transport there needs to be arranged in advance (something we handle as part of the package, not as a surprise add-on cost). This is also the length we recommend for elderly travellers or young families, since no single day involves more than one long drive.
Skip this length if: budget is the deciding factor he jump from 5N/6D to 6N/7D is mostly about pace, not new landmarks, so 4N/5D or 5N/6D will cover the "must-see" list for less.
For repeat visitors, joint families, or anyone treating this as the year's main holiday
At this length we usually swap in Yusmarg — Kashmir's other offbeat meadow, quieter than Doodhpathri and popular for short horseback rides — or add a second houseboat night on Dal Lake for travellers who'd rather slow down than see a fifth destination. Combination Trips When Kashmir Alone Isn't the Goal
Valley Calm, Then High-Altitude Adventure
Not a "duration upgrade" so much as a different trip stitched on: after the Kashmir valley leg, you fly or drive to Leh for Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake. Because Leh sits above 11,000 ft, we build in an acclimatisation day rather than a straight-through itinerary — altitude sickness is the single most common reason Ladakh add-ons go wrong, and it's avoidable with the right pacing.
Valley Plus Pilgrimage
Popular with travellers routing through Jammu anyway: a shortened Kashmir circuit (Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam) combined with the Vaishno Devi trek from Katra. Because the trek itself is physically demanding, we schedule it at the start or end of the trip, never in the middle of valley sightseeing days.
How to Actually Choose Your Duration
How many days of leave do you actually have, after travel?
Flights to Srinagar mean a half-day lost on each end for most Indian cities. If you have 5 days off total, you're realistically booking a 3N/4D, not a 4N/5D.
Is this a once-in-a-few-years trip, or could you come back?
If it's the only Kashmir trip you're likely to take for years, lean toward 5N/6D or 6N/7D so Sonamarg and the offbeat meadows aren't left out. If you already know you'll be back (work travel, family in the region), 3N/4D or 4N/5D covers the essentials without over-spending.
Who's travelling with you?

In winter (Dec–Feb), Sonamarg and Doodhpathri roads are often snow-closed, which shrinks the useful difference between 5N/6D and 6N/7D — most winter bookings cluster around 4N/5D focused on Gulmarg. In summer (Apr–Aug), every duration above is fully drivable. Check month-by-month conditions before locking a length.

Is 3 days enough to see Kashmir?
Enough to see Srinagar and Gulmarg properly — not enough for Pahalgam or Sonamarg without the trip feeling rushed. If Gulmarg and Dal Lake are your priority, 3N/4D works well.
What's the minimum nights to cover Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg without rushing?
Five nights / six days. Anything shorter means compressing at least one destination into a same-day round trip from Srinagar.
Does a longer package always cost proportionally more?
Roughly, yes, but not linearly — each added night usually adds one destination plus its hotel night, so the per-night cost stays fairly consistent across 3N/4D through 7N/8D. Combination trips (Ladakh, Vaishno Devi) cost more per night because of flights/permits involved.
Can I extend a package after booking if I decide I want more days?
